Funny Toddler Moments

I try to keep track of the funny things Cailen says and does. I even made a Memory Book to keep the cute things he draws, paints, collects, etc with a journal section for me to write all these wonderful moments. It's practically blank. I'm horrible at it. I do think I need to print my blog one of these days though as a sort of journal. Anyway, I have posted on facebook some cute things Cailen has said recently and so I thought I'd post those here along with any other things I can think of at the moment...

*We were talking about the tooth fairy for some reason and I was trying to explain the concept when Cailen tells me that the tooth fairy wants our teeth to make macaroni and cheese...hmm, not sure where that came from and kinda grossed me out.

*We were driving into my sister in law's neighborhood and Cailen told me we were going to the forest of houses. I actually laughed outloud. I don't know why, but it was really funny and looking at the street ahead of me, it really DID look like a forest of houses!

*We played the game Sorry three times today. Cailen is really good at it! He won all three times!! I didn't even cheat to make it shorter! (ok, wait, I did take a pawn away from each of us, but at least it was still fair) He was really good at counting out the squares to see where he landed and he could identify all the numbers on the cards (sometimes he would get tired of it though and wouldn't tell me or would forget). He also LOVED to get Sorry cards because then he could bump me or Mark. He thought that was great.

*We have been reading the same two books at nap and bedtime for like 4 days now. He is obsessed. One of them is about a guinea pig who wants to be a firefighter (???). The cool thing about this book is that he is really learning about fire safety and what to do if there is a fire. He can tell me exactly why a firefighter wears special clothes, where he goes to get out of the house, where he meets Mom and Dad, what to do if he can't get out of his room, where the smoke alarms are and what they do. It's awesome! I found myself half wishing I could test his smartness out with a fire (I think this pregnancy is making me insane).

There are a million other things but I can't remember them. How horrible. I posted on FB today that I love how smart Cailen is and the things he says, yet I can't remember what he said to make me write that! Wonderful! Hmm...nope, it's gone. I think he was explaining something to me....Anyway, I'm going to try to do better. That's what the memo pad in my cell phone can be for! :)

I Love Fall! - Castle Park Photo Shoot

I love this time of year! Growing up without trees that had leaves which changed color makes me love this time of year! I remember my first fall at BYU absolutely LOVING my view out my dorm room window (believe me, I had an awesome view) because I could see the entire mountain covered with fun fall colors. It was great. So I thought I would share some pictures of the fun things we have done this fall so far. I think I am going to do Halloween stuff separate, but that is a fun fall thing as well!

Seeing all the amazing colors of the season always makes me want to take pictures. I love to take pictures. Problem is, I'm not that great at it. Ok, I don't have a lot of practice and I have yet to learn how to edit said pictures so they look decent. But I saw this awesome park on my way home one day and decided Cailen HAD to play at it and I just HAD to borrow my M&D's camera so I could take some semi decent pictures of Cailen playing at said park with said fall colors. Now, as mentioned, I don't really edit...soo....deal with the pictures I took because I had fun. Despite the fact that Cailen and I went sliding down the stupid hill we decided to climb down because Cailen wanted to go in the "forest" and then we couldn't get up and I, 8 months pregnant mind you, tried to boost my 3 1/2 year old up the hill while trying not to kill myself or the baby and not damage my parents' camera. It was interesting. I'm really glad no one witnessed. Although I guess I just ruined the whole anonymity of that story by sharing it here...oh well! Despite the dirt stains on clothes and Cailen's lunch all over his face (we had a picnic as well), I think there were some cute shots that I got :) Enjoy.
(this is down that stupid hill)
(this is after making it up the stupid hill and refreshing ourselves with lunch)
Cailen is gathering leaves here. He didn't get the concept of cool leaves. He kept bringing me green ones off the tree. It was kinda funny.

Grumpy

I dreamed during my 20 minute nap that I slept for an hour. Not cool.

Fun Times! (I know, lame title, I'm not creative right now)

Oops, I accidentally posted this post before the last picture was loaded and before I had written anything! Hopefully none of you saw that...

Anyway, we're still chugging along, enjoying the fall season and trying to find fun things to do that don't wear me out but give Cailen the satisfaction of not being bored (and me the satisfaction that he's not just sitting in front of the TV watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse...which I think he is doing right now as I blog. He could do that all day long!).

Crafts! I am trying to get Cailen involved in some crafty stuff. So far all we've done is painting. But he loves it! Here he is doing some wonderful artwork (you'll see these later Aunt Heather...hint hint) in a very frilly apron. It's what we had, deal.

Cailen also looooves to ride his bike! I had the brilliant idea to have him ride it over to the park where there is a circular walking path (this is seeming very deja vu-ish...have I already posted about this??). He went around and around and around like 5 times while I just sat on the bench and watched. It was lovely. Speaking of...he wants to do that today, but I don't know if I'm up for that even...we'll see. He is a pro biker, lemme tell ya. It is so fun to see how he has grown up even in these last few months. Ah...such a big boy! And he will seem even BIGGER when the LITTLE one gets here! CRAZY!! I want him to stay little!

Cailen is such a good "helper." The fact that he loves to help is wonderful to me. Trying to figure out how he can is a little hard at times. Mark helped my parents out by installing some sprinklers around their playground for the grass they were going to add under there (bye-bye wood chips, yay!) and Cailen had to be involved. Mark was brilliant - he gave him a trowel and it was his job to dig "over there" and move the dirt from spot A to spot B. He felt like he was helped and was big like his daddy, yet, he didn't ruin what Mark had already done! Creative parenting, check.

October means pumpkins of course and we gathered with some family to carve pumpkins. Or rather, watch them carve pumpkins. Mark had school so I was on my own and did NOT feel like trying to cut shapes into a pumpkin with a 3 year old while being 8 months pregnant. Hence, we didn't do a pumpkin, but everyone let Cailen be involved in theirs a little bit. Thanks guys! Here Cailen is helping his new cousin (step-cousin?) Derek pull the guts out of his pumpkin. Sigh, he is growing up. Last year he was quite disgusted with the very idea!

My bro and sis in law just got a little kitty to help keep the mice in check and they have been bringing him to family functions - which all the kids LOOOVE! Cailen loves animals. And he LOVES Yeager (the cat). Here he is holding the little darling (ok, it's darling now, but when it's an actual cat..I'll be done with it) after he just fed him like 25 kitty treats. Sorry Trisha :)

I have loaded more pics onto the computer (yay!) so hopefully I can get some more things posted but I am EXHAUSTED right now (I haven't been sleeping good...but that's a whole story for a later post), so I'm going to try to nap while Cailen is watching Mickey Mouse and my mom can watch him. So I'd better take advantage of the time I have!!

Summer Recap

I have been really horrible at blogging. Mostly, I've just been lazy. But I was sitting here at the computer and figured I should probably at least get some pictures in here and show what we did this summer. That way, I will be semi-up-to-date! So real quick, here are some pictures showing some late summer adventures :)

Raspberry Days at Bear Lake - for those that don't know, every year Mark's family celebrates Raspberry Days at Bear Lake. It's the first weekend in August and we spend it at his family's cabin just having fun! There is a craft fair, boating and of course, a rodeo! So here is us at the rodeo! Cailen had lots of fun, as usual. This year, he participated in the "chase the calf" run. I don't know what it is actually called! But it was hilarious to watch him! His awesome cousin Lysi was nice enough to stick by him and help him out. At least he didn't fall down! Lysi is wearing a blue cowboy hat and leaning down talking to Cailen who is wearing a gray sweatshirt. See if you can find them!

Next, Mark and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary! I totally meant to do a complete post on this, telling you all how amazing the past 5 years have been and how much I love my husband. But I didn't get to that. I was lazy. But that doesn't change the fact that the past 5 years HAVE been amazing and that I love my husband TONS and that I am so happy to have had the life we have had. Thanks babe! We celebrated by going out to eat at Tucanos! YUM! The concierge at our hotel (yes, we got a night away from Cailen, thanks M&D!) was super awesome and hooked us up with some great coupons too. And they gave us a free dessert because it was our anniversary! Sweet! We went and saw Inception too. Good flick! Here we are after stuffing our faces! Good thing you can't see my stomach because I'm both pregnant AND full, not a good combo!!

We also tried to squeeze in some last minute lake trips. We went with my family to Pineview to hang out on the boat. That did NOT sound too appealing to me, being the big blob that I am (ok, and I get motion sick kinda easy), so I spent most of the time on the beach hanging out with Cailen and my brother Ryan too. Cailen LOVES the play on the beach, in the water and be on the boat. There are some great pictures here of him tubing with Mark. So cute!

Tubing with Daddy!

We also made a trip to the Zoo (man August was a crazy month!). We went with our good friends Brynna and Camden. Camden and Cailen got to see the new baby elephant (can I just tell you that it is so cute! It looks so old with it's wrinkles but is a young lil' thing!)

Brynna was nice enough to take the boys on the carousel while I was able to relax a bit on the bench and take pics :)

We headed to the fire station with some of my cousins one day to get a tour of the inside and see all the fire trucks. He got to see where the firefighters sleep and eat. Then he saw the ambulance and firetrucks. While we were there, they got two calls! First, the blue light went off and the ambulance had to leave. Then the red light went off and the fire truck had to leave. It was kind of exciting.

We took one more trip to the lake (Willard Bay this time) with me, Mark, Cailen, my friend Jill, my sister Michelle and her friend Cherstin. Cailen loved it, I was a little motion sick, but all in all, good fun!

Cailen loved to help pull the tube back in after someone went on a ride.
Cailen with Mark and Jill

We also went swimming at my parents' pool before it was closed for Labor Day. Cailen made a huge step this year and decided he loved the tube. Yeesh. He did so awesome the past summers, but he just hasn't had a ton of pool time so he has been a little frady cat. It's been frustrating. But this time he did great. He would even float off by himself and kick all around the pool! Maybe next year we can really work at the swimming thing. He loves water, he just takes awhile to warm up to it.

Yes the tube is pink. It's a Mickey Mouse one from when I was young, how funny huh?

Cailen LOVES bowling. We decided to take a trip to Boondocks and let him bowl since we had a buy one get one free coupon. We let Cailen bowl for Mark too :) He LOVED it, as usual. Every time we drive by Boondocks on the freeway now, he asks to go bowling. He was pretty decent...for a 3 year old! :)

I'll try to get some more posts up of recent things like Halloween as well as some recent prego pics of me! Only 2 weeks to go! YIKES!

Umm..

Ok, I obviously haven't changed my blog in awhile and have messed it up...sooooo, be patient with me while I try to fix the look of my blog. Oops.

Tidbits of life

I feel like I should blog, but have nothing in mind as to what to write about! I also feel like I have read that on a few people's blogs lately. I guess with school starting and summer closing, we've all finished up with our fun adventures! As for me, I just don't feel up to as many adventures as I used to! I'm now more than 7 months along and am definitely feeling it! This time around, I have "felt" more pregnant than with Cailen. Meaning - I'm a boring person to be around because I sit a lot and can't do crazy things. Looking back, I went boating right around Cailen's due date (partly to try to convince Cailen to be born in May...didn't work). I can't even fathom that right now and I still have 2 months to go! My muscles just don't like stretching and expanding this time around. It's a bit uncomfortable. Despite me being a boring stick in the mud, life has been chugging along and there are still fun things happening. Cailen is a cutie pie, still loving his little brother-to-be. He likes to hug, kiss, and touch my tummy. He seems to think he can only "see" the baby when he can see my skin. It makes for awkward moments when he wants to pull my shirt up at other people's house, stores, or when I have a dress on. I have tried to explain, but he doesn't listen :) I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but he thinks we should name the baby Grandma Davis. We're not taking his suggestions...at all. He says the silliest things, as many 3 year olds do, as well as some of the smartest things! It is so fun to listen to what a little boy he has become. Here's a little snipit of Cailen charm: I, having sneezed, explained to Cailen that my nose itched, so I sneezed. He thinks about that and, obviously reflecting on earlier when his underwear tag was bothering him, says "my bum itched, so it needs to sneeze." Lovely Cailen...lovely. I laughed for quite a while about that one.
Since posting last, I think I've had two doctor appointments and both have gone well and boring. Which is just fine with me. I'm gaining weight and growing as I should and the baby moves as he should. We have two friends that are expecting babies as well (both due in Feb) and so it's fun that we're going to have some little friends for our guy. One friend is having a boy and one is having a girl (arranged marriage? perhaps). Other than that, Mark's still chugging along with school and looking longingly towards his approaching graduation. He knows this is his last Fall semester! YAY! I'm quite excited as well. I've been working on getting Christmas presesnts ready which sounds funny seeing as it's September. But like I said before, I'm a slow mover and since I'm due before Thanksgiving, the last thing I want to deal with after the baby is born is insane Christmas shopping. So I'm trying to have that done before I have the baby. I'm also working on making our Halloween costumes - I'm going to be Mrs. Potato Head (figured I'd put that belly to good use), Mark will be Slinky Dog and Cailen will be Buzz (yes, we have a theme going, every year!) Luckily, the little one won't be here yet, so I only have the three. I think I'd make him Hamm...or maybe an army guy...anywho, that's what I've been up to. Oh, also, I'm working on making a new car seat cover because my lovely aunt Alison gave me her old carseat to take care of my dilemma that I posted about before. Yay!! I'm excited to have that stress over. Granted, now I have to sew something I have no clue how to do, but I think I can figure it out. Anyone that has tips, let me know!
On a random note (ok this is all random, who am I kidding), Cailen has a weird bedtime routine. I just got back from putting him to bed and thought I'd finish this post. He ALWAYS wants people to lay with him. He doesn't like to go to sleep alone. But he does fine at it when he finally lets you leave. In order to speed up that process, we've compromised that I will stop at the door and we'll blow each other kisses. He gets to pick how many kisses so he gets excited about that. Luckily, he doesn't really pay attention to how many are actually given so I'm not stuck there forever. But he has taken to saying bye once I close the door. He used to say thank you and then bye, but he has since dropped the thank you (don't know where either came from!). Since dropping the thank you, he has added more and more "byes." He says bye to the most random things. Things in his room, animals, made up words, you name it. I have started to limit how many byes he can say. Tonight he wanted me to pretend he was a monkey so I had to say goodnight monkey and then he thought for about 60 seconds on who his last goodbye was going to be. I had to sit there outside his door while he decided. Yeesh. But at least I don't have trouble with him staying in his room or anything once he finally lets me leave. I'll say goodbye to all the monkey's pillows, trains, lamps, and gooblykonks as he wants (that's my made up word, not his). Hmm, I set out to post just a little about how boring our lives have been, but this has become a surprisingly long post. Hmm. I'll throw in a few pictures to make it visually appealing, plus, if you stuck it out this long to read all of this, you deserve a few pictures :)
Cailen enjoying bubble baths
Cailen and me with our clown noses at the Elephant Parade at Gateway Mall a few days before the Circus started in SLC.

We did go to the circus the other day, that is a fun thing, right? It was me, Cailen, and Mark with my dad and brother Ryan and two of my younger cousins, Parker and Ryann. We all had a blast! Cailen kept saying "why are the lights off? Oh, because it's pretty cool, right?" or something along those lines. He loved all the animals and the motorcycles and fun lights.

Cailen loves all things baby for some reason. When I go into Kid to Kid (local consignment store), he always wants to climb into the baby swings, bouncers, etc. I try to explain to him that he is not a baby and that he will BREAK these things! However, I let him climb into our "new" carseat that my aunt gave me. I had taken the cover off so it couldn't have been very comfy, but whatever. Mark propped him in the laundry basket in front of the TV to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse....I HAD to take a picture because it was just weird. And cute. And silly.

Me at 7(ish) months! Wow, I didn't realize that I am actually getting BIG. No wonder I feel stretching and discomfort, ha!
