Disney Movies

We recently ordered a bunch of Disney movies from the Disney Movie Club. We had fun last night opening a few. We watched Dumbo last night and Cailen LOVED it! He loved the elephants and all the songs. He loved the train ("choo, choo!") and all of the other animals. He watched it pretty well too. He sat next to me sometimes and other times he layed on the pillow on the floor, his designated spot to watch movies. This morning we watched Monsters, Inc.

He sat in his spot again, eating a sucker, and was content. I'm hoping the monsters aren't too scary for him. He seems to be doing okay (he is currently watching it). Fun movies. I'm brainwashing him early to love Disney :)

The Fun Adventures of Cailen Mark Barber, Third Installment

As a mother, Cailen is my life. That is then reflected in my blog. You all get to share in the cuteness, silliness, and wonder of Cailen. I love seeing little kids grow and change. I watch it on my friends blogs, Kendal and Megan mostly because they're obsessed with their kids too :) Here's another installment of The Fun Adventures of Cailen Mark Barber:

Cailen loves to brush his teeth. I don't think I've shared this yet with everyone. First, I brush his teeth, which is a bit of a challenge, and then it's Cailen's turn. Pretty much, this means he sucks the remainder of his kiddie toothpaste off his toothbrush. We usually do it at the same time and he likes to help me brush my teeth too. Apparently kids are quite observant (who knew?) and he learned a thing or two from watching me. He can now successfully spit!

What a sillybean. Here's a pic or two of Cailen and me playing around on the bed.

Cailen has this thing with our toolbox. Actually, I think it's almost anything he can sit on because, come to think of it, last night he was sitting on my nephews present in pretty much the same fashion. Anywho, he loves sitting on this toolbox that I've had sitting in out living room. He just heads straight there and carefully plops hims elf down. It's one of those things you just have to be there for, but it's so cute!

Sad story:
Poor little adventurous munchkin. We were at my parents' house Friday and Cailen got the grand idea to play with the fireplace. It's one of those fake ones that turns on with a switch, but seeing as it had been on all day, the screen in front of it was pretty dang hot. Poor little Cailen went to touch it and got singed. His little fingertips got blisters and a little bit of his palm was red too. He cried pretty good and consistent. It was an ordeal going home. He cried the whole 20 minutes pretty much. My mom felt horrible! But, that's what happens with little kids. It would have happened eventually. Maybe now he'll be more wary of the fireplace! Anyway, we took my mom's little smiley face ice pack and once we got home, he would sit on my lap and just place his little hand on it. He got distracted a little with my nephew Noah, who he loves! He would play a little bit and then come back to place his hand on the ice pack for a little while. Trying to put him to sleep was an effort too because it had only been about 45 minutes since he burnt it. You could tell he was so tired but it still hurt too much. We put some bandaids on and that helped a ton. I think it protected his little fingers from rubbing on stuff that would aggravate the burn. He passed out and slept soundly the whole night. That next morning, took some pictures of his bandaged fingers. He actually has blisters on all four fingers and his palm is red, but we only had bandaids on the first two and I'm surprised they lasted the whole night. He's doing much better and doesn't even care about the blisters now. My little trooper.

Memories

1. Add a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

First Haircut!

Many will be excited to hear that Cailen had his first haircut today! While eating lunch yesterday, Cailen got ravioli in his hair. I was cleaning it out and it was then that I realized how far his hair has gone. It's time!! So since Mark doesn't work until the afternoon, I figured we'd tackle it together this morning. Proud to say, it went well! Mark got out his high chair thinking that would be a good place to have him sit during the haircut. It went okay for a little while. We got a few toys to try to entertain him, but he started dancing and moving around. So that didn't work. We got the first lock cut though! Yea! Then we tried having Mommy hold him while Daddy cut. That worked better. He then switched to having me (Mommy) try to fix it up a little, but he was in his chair again and started with the dancing again. Sigh. Finally, we got the buzzer (does this have a name?) out to finish up and that went surprisingly well. We showed him how it felt and showed it on Daddy, then tried it on Cailen. He was quite calm. IT'S DONE! We have a cute lock of hair to scrapbook and some funny pictures too. Have a look-see!
The Before

The Haircut

In that last picture, Cailen swatted Mark's hand away, ha. He didn't want us to interrupt his book reading.
Here is Cailen dancing in his high chair. Mark's trying to sternly tell him this is no time for dancing :)

The big guns come out!

The After

What a cutie pie!

Had to get some video footage of this moment!

I don't think I had realized how long it had gotten! WOW! But now I don't have any cute hair to play with :( But he looks all grown up now! There Heather, no more mullet.

Ready For Nursery? OH YES!

Cailen will be turning 18 months the 4th of December. Then he'll be able to go to nursery, pending his ability to be without his mom or dad for two hours...Oh he'll go. He may be going a little early after this past Sunday's experience. Try, next week! He is a little pill! I'll tell you all about it:
Cailen started off being a pill during Relief Society. He was wandering around, messing with the curtains, trying to play the piano, the usual. He even managed to knock over the music stand. Sigh. After saving him from that catastrophe, I smelled trouble. Diaper duty. We headed to the mother's room to change his diaper, which went over quite well. I figured I'd visit the ladies room while we were out. Giving him the diaper wipe container in hopes of entertainment, the little twerp inched around me and chucked it in the toilet! Eww! Diving in to save the wipes and quickly running to the sink to rinse them off (after flushing the toilet), I glanced over to see Cailen splashin' around in the toilet! Goodness, can't he wait one second!? Swooping down I grabbed Cailen and we finally managed to get out of there after 3 more attempts to the toilet (Cailen), washing wipe's container and hands (me and Cailen), and a few deep breaths (me). I told the tale to a friend in R.S. and she says, "so he'll be going to nursery next week?", with a smile. I'm thinking so. Yes Cailen, get ready for Nursery!

Cailen's Got Skill!

Thought I'd share the latest cute thing from Cailen. Well...not that it's truly new, he's been doing it for a little while. But it's newer and so I'm still excited. Cailen can eat all by himself!! He loves to feed himself and it's nice when he can do it well (then I can eat my breakfast at the same time, for example). So these are some pictures from today of Cailen eating yogurt for breakfast and some soup for lunch (I know! Soup! Cool huh that he can feed himself soup!!). He is also really good at macaroni and cheese. I think I posted about him eating cereal by himself a little while back. And yes, he eventually makes a mess, but I'm still proud of him :)
Here's the yogurt!
Here's the soup (with the rejected hot dog off to the side; he actually started eating the hot dog later, but only if he could put it on the spoon with his soup!)

Now, I thought I'd throw in some cute pictures of Cailen playing around the house. He loves cars and when playing in the drawers and cupboards in the kitchen, he came across a lid that apparently looked similar to a steering wheel. He made the sounds and everything! It was great. And then he is a great observer too. He already has talking on the phone down pat! He stole my phone and was walking around the kitchen talking on it as he pulled things out of the drawers. Silly boy. He also loves to "play" video games with his cousins who live upstairs. He has to sit exactly how they are sitting too. It's funny. And then this beanie he's wearing was made by one of the girls at WRA who gave it to him the last time I was working a shift there. It kept covering his eyes, so he was peeking out at me with it, he was being a dork :)

BooHoo

Bummer. Obama won. Not that I was too suprised. Seriously. After all the media garbage that was put out there who could be surprised? I think that so much bad was talked about Bush that people went too far the other way. Like Obama's plans are going to help. So I'm venting. And complaining. And being pessimistic. I'm going to follow my friend Kendal's advice and be optimistic. One optimistic thing is that a bunch of marriage protecting things passed - like Proposition 8. WOOHOO!! I was super excited to see that. I know a lot of people put a lot of work into that, but for and against. But since I don't live in California or Arizona, etc, I couldn't vote on that issue, so I was biting my nails, waiting to hear. And they passed! Yea for Prop. 8! Yea for all the others too. Good for America for believing in marriage still. K, I'm done with politics. On to my life - family and friends. I'm going to see Jekyl and Hyde tonight so I'd better get ready! Plus, Cailen is trying so darn hard to get my attention and he's being so cute.

Super Saturdays are SUPER!

I have been slightly productive today so I'm going to sit back down and blog again :) This time it's because I can't help but brag about my cool crafts I did at my ward's Super Saturday this Saturday. I'm proud of them because they turned out cute! The pictures don't do them justice, but the lighting in my house isn't helping either. Basements are not a photographers delight. However, I will show them anyway and you can just add 30 pts of coolness to get the idea. The JOY has a rustic look to it because of the stain that was applied. I stained the front of it after painting it and then quickly wiped it off to give it that look. That was what we were supposed to do and all of them turned out really cute. The BELIEVE block only cost me $2!! I really really should have signed up for more of them. I bet I can create them myself buying some two by fours and cutting them up. I can cut vinyl on my Cricut machine so there ya go! Anyway, everyone was supposed to do them in green, but I couldn't conform! I saw a lady painting hers red (she couldn't conform either) and thought "hmm..." So I painted the front red and that back and sides black. I tried to sponge a little black on the front too and then wipe it off but that doesn't work with paint. I had to paint over it with more red. It left me with a darker red though and so I think it worked out in the end because I achieved my "look." I then distressed it with sandpaper like I did the JOY only a little bit more on the actual surface rather than just the corners (the JOY isn't as distressed) and then I used the stain from the JOY project and did the same idea with applying then wiping. It looks awesome! They had some cool glitter spray too that I put on after it was all dry. The tags were a freebie project that I did while waiting for things to dry and such. I made some fun bday ones, a little baby one, and some fantastic Christmas ones. My visiting teacher was the lady who brought all the stuff. Let me tell you, she has a ton of stamps! It was great though. So here's my bragging, I'm done :)

So I went a little crazy with the color of the font. Hey, it was a holiday super saturday and I did Christmas stuff! Let me have fun. But I promise, I'm not putting them out until after Thanksgiving (you have to do each holiday justice). And the BELIEVE block is going to be out year round because it matches my house and to BELIEVE is a year-long idea!

Sigh...Mondays

It's the beginning of a new week so of course it's full of craziness. Thought I'd share what the first part of my day has consisted of:

I had posted before of a few of Cailen's obsessions: cars and diapers. There are quite a few more to this list. Just to mention a few, he loves shoes and my oven mitt (one specifically). He tried on my boots that I wore on Halloween. I think he had some energy from all the sugar! He loves to pull all sorts of shoes out of wherever they are and bring them to me. Sometimes he wants to give them to me, sometimes he wants to wear them. He's silly.
He likes to wear or play with anything that is his Mom's or his Dad's. He must feel like a big boy. Here, he found Mark's tie after work on Saturday and was trying to wear it.

In the kitchen there are a few drawers that Cailen loves to open and pull things out of. I have posted about the lid drawer already. The other drawer is the towel drawer. It has amazing things in it, like washcloths, dish towels, bibs, and oven mitts. There is one oven mitt, a glove-like one, that Cailen loves to pull out and put on. He waves it around while walking around the house and he'll try to "get" you with it. Today he put it on while I was trying to feed him yogurt for breakfast. His face is PRICELESS!

There are other fun times with Cailen. This was also Saturday night (ok, so I'm veering from the Monday title...) when he was playing with Daddy. He loves to try to take pictures too, so I decided to put it on a timer and see what picture he got. He did pretty good! Here's the picture of Mark that he took and then some pictures I got of him playing with Daddy.

He's laughing in that third picture, I promise! It's mid-playing and he was laughing like crazy!!

Back to the Monday's. Cailen was being a PILL today as I was trying to get all these blog posts up. I didn't catch him before it was too late with this one:
He was so proud of it, as you can see by his smile. He likes to dig through our pencil/pen box and got a hold of a pencil. Before I knew it, he was drawing like crazy on our storage door! Luckily it wiped off with a wet paper towel. The kicker is, the little stinker wasn't through! He went back for more! He got another pencil and this time I saw him and made him put it back. That didn't stop him. He kept trying to do it again. He would rifle through till he found another pencil, look at me and give me this mischievous little smile as he inched toward the door again. I confiscated 10 pencils, 1 colored pencil, and 1 dry erase marker from the little devil. Granted he thought it was funny after awhile and gave me about half of those pencils straight from the box. But he did try at least 4 times to get back to the door to draw on it. *Sigh* Mondays!

After his nap, Daddy was home from school and started to help put up a hammock for Cailen's stuffed animals. Cailen really wanted to be a part of everything and was hurrying over to see what was going on. He tripped and fell, biting something in his mouth which started to bleed. He was a trooper though, stopping crying after a little bit and being happy again. Here Cailen is with his washcloth that he walked around with for a little while to help stop the bleeding.
The look on Cailen's face in that first picture is hilarious (not sure if you can see it with it being this small)

We still have a whole half a day left! Hopefully he got it all out of his system this morning...please?....please?! *Sigh* Mondays...
