Pregnancy Pic and Haircut

Well I meant to take a picture of my tummy at the ultrasound to document about 5 months, but that didn't happen, so here is one a few days later at about 23/24 weeks (July 24, 2010)

I realize I should have turned a little bit more...you can't quite see the extent of the bump. This picture doesn't do it justice!

As you can see, I cut my hair! I was getting soooo tired of my hair and dealing with it in the heat. I would just throw it up in a ponytail most days, it was just pointless. So I decided enough was enough, I was getting it cut! Plus I had seen so many people with cute short hair (like you Barbara!!) that it was just too enticing!! My lovely sister-in-law Wendy cut it for me and I think she did a great job. Thanks Wendy! I immediately started having long-hair-envy whenever I would see people, but really, it was a good decision. I am probably going to grow it back out, but right now, it is nice, easy, cooler, and just DIFFERENT! That's probably the best thing about it! YAY!

Wow, my cheeks are red from summer...not so attractive. And my hair still lacks body, but it is nice to have a CHANGE!

We're Having a Boy!!

We had our ultrasound this week to check on the baby of course, but also to find out what we are having!! I don't think I could handle not knowing...how do people do it? What about you guys? Do you prefer to know or have you been/will you be surprised?

Like the post title says, we're having a little boy!! When we found out that Cailen was a boy, Mark was relieved. He knew he had his boy. But then he confessed that he wanted to know he had two. "What??" was my reaction? Don't I get to have a girl!? So needless to say, Mark's getting his two boys and is as pleased as could be! I am very happy too because Cailen will have a little brother to play with and I think they will have a blast and be the best of friends! (ok, until they're teenagers and hate each other for a while) I'm excited to see the two of them interact and see how Cailen handles having another little kid around. Right now, he loves the idea of a baby. Ever since the ultrasound, since I've been able to call the baby a "he," we've been saying hi to the baby and hugging the baby and Cailen loves to lay by the baby. Just this morning he pulled up my shirt to caress my tummy and give the baby hugs. He also tries to tickle the baby but doesn't understand that the baby can't feel that, it's just mom's stomach. But it's still cute :)
Funny story about the ultrasound: the technician asked us before the revelation to know if we wanted to know (umm YES!) and announced that we were having a boy! We turn to Cailen and let him know he is going to have a little brother; "Cailen, the baby is a boy!" (he had been insisting it's a boy this whole time) "No, it's a girl" he says. Uh no buddy, there's proof riiiiiight there. That night we were saying good night to the baby and I said "say hi, say goodnight, say we found out you're a boy" and Cailen would just repeat after me. But at that last one he goes "You're a girl" as calm as could be. He's in denial. He is doing better now though!

Here are some pictures to show you our little bundle on the way. We had lots of family there to share in the moment: Mark and Cailen and me of course; my mom, dad, sister, and brother; Mark's mom, gma, and two sisters. It was fun to have them all come and look at the TV screen as we saw our little boy squirm and move and see how well he is growing.

(I actually had to go back the next day for another ultrasound because they had gotten someone else's measurments mixed up with mine and so it was throwing mine off. I was fine with that though because then I got to see my little boy again!!)
Really washed out pic, but here is our little family as it is now! Ready to find out about our little one on the way!
You can see my prego bump a little in this pic..I meant to take a portrait of myself but totally forgot. The setup was nice, there was that TV for us all to look at
A lot of our family was able to come and see it with us, which was cool! My SIL Wendy was also there but I think we took the picture before she came in the room. Oh, and my dad was taking the pictures for me

Kids are cute

My kid is cute. In an effort to remind myself of this in the future or if I have a bad day or something, I thought I would share his cuteness tonight :)

I was putting Cailen to bed and he decided that he wanted to give his dad hugs. Ugh, ok fine, can't say no to hugs. He walks out saying "If you want to come with me, go for it!" Apparently, I say 'go for it' often enough he can repeat it!

We were laying down to read books, as usual, and I had him say a few things to the baby. Things like "hi" "love you" and "see you in a few months" :) He then decides that I am reading the baby and him a story. Then he wants to lay by the baby, so he turns upside down with his feet by my head and lays on my tummy/leg and cuddles up to "the baby." It was very cute. We then sang songs to the baby. Other than the fact that I needed him to just go to sleep, it was a very cute 30 minutes.

My child constantly says adorable things and I am really going to try to document these little tidbits that mark his toddler years! Oh, the good intentions. Hopefully I can deliver!

4th of July Weekend

I figure I would hurry and post this while I was at my parents and had the internet :)
Well, yesterday ended a brilliant 4 day weekend of celebration for the 4th of July! We headed up to Bear Lake with Mark's family to spend the weekend at their family cabin. Loads of fun! It wasn't too hot and so it was nice to spend time outside. We headed down to the lake for a little while but didn't really spend time in the water because, let's face it, Bear Lake is always cold and even though it's July, hasn't heated up one iota. Cailen loved playing in the mud/sand, building sand castles, playing with his cousins and sleeping in the tent. We had good food, played games together and celebrated my niece Becca and my sister-in-law Wendy's birthdays. We went to church in Garden City Sunday morning where we sang the entire Star Spangled Banner, I'm pretty sure that was my first time singing ALL THREE verses. And of course, we did some fireworks. Cailen was REALLY tired Sunday night when we did fireworks, so he wasn't too much of a happy camper. He covered his ears the whole time and asked a few times to go inside. I refused! He was going to watch those fireworks dang it! Anyway, he fell asleep under the blanket on my lap instead, with his hands over his ears still :) It was a lot of fun hanging out with the Barbers!
We headed back home Monday morning and joined my family that night for some fireworks because they hadn't really had a big firework show up at Bear Lake and you HAVE to see big fireworks on the 4th of July!! We met up with my family and my aunt Barb and her family. Cailen was in a MUCH better mood this time around and we were far enough away that they weren't too loud so all in all, he enjoyed them! It probably helped that he had about a gazillion little glowsticks that made him happy! Thanks Barb! And now it's back to real life again....ho hum. Hope you all had a happy 4th of July!!

Fireworks with Grandpa Jerry
Covering his ears for the "noise" (seriously, we were doing snakes most of the time!)
Enjoying sparklers!! (once he realized they made no noise)
Watching his cousins do fireworks
Enjoying Pop-its! Snaps, whatever you want to call them
And of course Cailen loved marshmallows!
Mark and me at the firework show (yes my dad made me sit in a U chair)
Cailen with my cousin Jacey, she is practically his best friend. Oh, and he is showing us his glow sticks. He told me "wait" when I went to take a picture. Then he pulled out his glowsticks in prime showing-off fashion and gave a cheesy grin. Now I'm ready mom!

Well...

Yup, a picture is always the easiest way to say it. I'm pregnant and expecting our 2nd little bundle of joy!! I am due Nov 19, so I am about 4 months along. I have thought often about typing up this post, but with limited internet use, no useful pictures of me showing off a baby bump or anything else equally as snazzy, and pure laziness, it just hasn't happened. But then I realized I didn't want to wait until I knew if it was a boy or a girl, or until I was like 7 months along or, agh, D-Day and poof, I have a baby. So I made a concerted effort to sit down and write this while I have some time.

It's a little crazy realizing we are going to have ANOTHER little one running around. Cailen is 3, he is going to be a big brother. I am going to have to lug a LOT of crap around. I have to go back to baby mode. Etc etc etc...But I am excited!! It's about dang time and really, none of you are probably all that surprised :)

We are excited and it has definitely been a different experience all around than with Cailen. One, I'm not working. Two, I have a child to deal with while feeling morning sickness. Three, I was sick alllllll day long for like 3 months so that sucked. Four, it's a little anticlimactic being pregnant because it's like "been there, done that" so I have to remind myself...whoa, this is a new baby, crazy, yeah! Five, my family lives here and gets to see me in all my pregnancy stages :) And many other reasons. But it is the same in many ways because it's not something that anyone can really explain. Yes, I'm a mom already, but I'm only a mom to one. That's not the same as two. And since every kid is different, who knows how it's going to be!?! So there is the same nervousness and excitement as I had with Cailen. I am excited to add to our family and have another little Barber bundle of joy to love! :) I'm 20 weeks at the end of June but sadly I can't get my ultrasound until JULY 20th because my ultrasound technician is going on a THREE WEEK VACATION right at the beginning of July. Grr. Oh well, I have to wait 9 months to see the cutie pie anyway, what's a couple of weeks to know if it's a girl or boy. Anywho, that's our big news and I wanted to share it with you all so that you could share in our joy and excitement too :)

Me at 19ish weeks :)

Cailen's 3 Year Old Stats

I forgot to add this to posts about Cailen's birthday. We took him to the doctor not too long after he turned three and found out (uh, not surprising) that he is still a wee little guy. He seems so BIG to me, but really, he is a little runt compared to the rest of the world. In the Barber family though, I have a feeling he is going to be a giant :)

Weight: 27 lbs - 7th percentile, ha. (I was seriously surprised he hadn't broken 30 yet...he feels like carrying 50 lbs)
Height: 34 in. - 1-2 percentile.

There is our little munchkin, in a nutshell!!!!

Cute Random Update of Family

Here is a random assortment of pictures to update you on our family this summer (or a few months before too...) :) Some of these are from my phone, so please excuse the poor quality!

Hanging out at Kid to Kid

Watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on mom or dad's phone. This is a daily, if not more so, occurance.

Cailen's amazing circle and triangle he drew on his aquadoodle. I was so proud!

Ha..Cailen's predicament a few weeks ago. My sister Michelle picked me up and we met my parent's at IHOP. When we pulled up, Cailen had been saying "Mom" a few times and I finally said "what??" He declares in a very calm voice "When Michelle turns, I go like this." It was HILARIOUS.

Playing in the best toys ever: boxes

Cailen's new skill: the computer. He has a few games that we inherited from my aunt Barb and he loves them! I didn't really realize he was ready for them but he has been doing amazing! I love them because they are learning games, so it's all about shapes and numbers and letters, etc.

Cailen likes to take naps in our bed. Apparently he also likes to sleep UNDER our blanket. I found him like this when I went to check on him. He is completely wrapped up in that thing! I had to unwrap him so he could breath and wouldn't sweat to death!

We went to LagoonABeach and Lagoon on the 18th with some family and Cailen had a blast!! This was our first visit this year and he had to familiarize himself a little, but it really didn't take too long for him to warm up to it all!

This past Saturday we had some people over to our house for a dutch oven dinner. We had left all the doors and windows open since it was a pretty hot day and we were going in and out to check on the dutch ovens. Well, after dinner, we are all just hanging out around the table and up walks this dog!! He had wandered over clear from Centerville (for those of you who know where we live, it's not too far, but for a dog? We were surprised). Cailen LOVED it! He kept trying to copy Mark and call the dog to him and try to get him to sit. It was adorable. He wasn't afraid at all, which made me smile. We hung out with the dog for about 10 minutes until their owners came to get him (Mark had called them). It was random and fun.

(I've got a couple of videos, but I am having trouble uploading them, so if I get them working, I'll add those later!)
